The GuggenheimAdvertisements
Situated within one of the more surprising architectural sights to be seen in New York City, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, to give it its full name, is one of the city's most famous and visited museums. More often referred to as The Guggenheim, the first thing that strikes you upon visiting the museum is its startling design, taking the form of a widening spiral cylinder in stark white concrete. Inside, the galleries mirror the outer structure in that they gently spiral upwards towards the building's roof, although it has been suggested that this arrangement does not show some works at their best. The sometimes controversial building is the last significant work by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and it was not universally popular upon its completion, but its juxtaposition alongside the surrounding box-shaped skyscrapers has made it one of the essential sights of the city. |
