New York Public Library

Advertisements

Built in the Beaux Art style and once described as one of America's most important libraries, the New York Public Library sits on the corner of Fifth Avenue, between 40th and 42nd Streets in central Manhattan.

Centered around a breathtaking main reading room, the library is one of the largest and certainly the most impressive of its type in the world.

With both an extensive public library section for those wishing to take books out and an outstanding reference section, the NYPL is simultaneously one of the world's largest lending and research libraries.

The main building itself, which has Nation Historic Landmark status, is just part of the NYPL network which has local branches all over New York. If all of the network's collections were to be combined they would total tens of millions of items - only the Congressional Library in Washington and the British Library have more.
