Intrepid Sea, Air & Space MuseumAdvertisements
Situated as it is beside New York's North River Pier at the heart of a busy tourist zone, the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum is the home to a rich variety of military and civilian vehicles and equipment. The main focus of the museum's collection comprises an American World War Two aircraft carrier, a decommissioned US submarine and even a Concorde supersonic jet, but there is also an extensive range of WW2 fighting aircraft which includes many iconic planes and helicopters. Sat beside the museum is New York's main passenger terminal for shipping and, because of this, Intrepid has become the centre of the action during Fleet Week with visiting battleships mooring alongside and related events taking place in its grounds. The museum has recently been closed for renovation but is due to re-open Summer 2008. |
