Brooklyn Museum of ArtAdvertisements
Housed within a beautiful Beaux Arts style building next to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the Brooklyn Museum of Art is immensely popular, accepting more than half a million visitors a year. With a varied collection including ancient Egyptian and Assyrian artifacts, traditional art from Africa and the South Sea Islands and, perhaps what the establishment is best known for, its wide range of paintings spanning many schools of art from the 17th to the 19th century, the Brooklyn Museum of Art has something for everyone. Despite its fame for showcasing the works of the past masters, the museum is very much involved in the world of modern art too, with many contemporary artists of note exhibiting there. The creator of Washington DC's famous Lincoln Memorial, Daniel Chester French, sculpted a number of imposing figures - said to allegorically represent Brooklyn and Manhattan - that now guard the entrance. |
