BrooklynAdvertisements
Brooklyn (conterminous with Kings County) is the most highly populated of New York City's five boroughs, with over 2.5 million inhabitants. Located on the westernmost tip of Long Island and named after the Dutch town Breukelen, it was an autonomous city until its amalgamation with New York in 1898. However, Brooklyn still maintains its own character, distinguished by its cultural diversity, independent art scene, unique architectural heritage and its many well-defined neighborhoods (for which it is sometimes branded the 'borough of neighborhoods'). Brooklyn has long been a draw for immigrants, and has become New York City's most ethnically diverse borough. It is also inhabited by one of the most vibrant Jewish communities (many of whom are strictly Orthodox) outside Israel. |
