American Museum of Natural History

Located on Manhattan's Upper West Side, New York's world renowned American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) is made up of a number of connected buildings and sits amid acres of beautifully manicured gardens.

With a collection of over thirty million items to choose from, the AMNH can only display a small portion of it all at any one time but there is always something worth seeing.

The museum boasts many zoological and anthropological displays, from African and Asian mammals - including an awe-inspiring life-size model of a Blue Whale - to the history and culture of mankind from the South Pacific, Africa and the American Rockies among others. The AMNH is also home to a number of unusual artifacts, such as a giant meteorite and even the world's largest sapphire.

Attached to the main museum complex is the sphere of the Hayden Planetarium, which is housed within a giant cube of glass and offers spectacular virtual tours of our galaxy and beyond.
